MAJICAL CLOUDZ

Osheaga Festival - August 2nd

We drove up through the artist entrance behind the Green Stage in my friend David’s rented vehicle, a Fiat 500 (for reference: http://www.wikipediatrade.com/img/Fiat-500-front.jpg). The technical crew laughed at us as we pulled in and then explained that we were Majical Cloudz and we were playing at 1pm. Our ridiculously small amount of gear and our preposterously small ‘touring vehicle’ were surely a sight to see. We parked it beside a bunch of large vans and trucks in the parking lot.

The stage was massive. We brought a bunch of friends to the festival that day as ‘crew’, and since they all had the necessary accreditations we brought them up on stage. They stood in groups of three on each far side and stared out into the crowd, which was actually quite large considering we were the first band to play the entire festival.

The set felt good to play. It was a novelty to be performing on such a large stage, outdoors, and in the early afternoon. Peforming in such a different context affected my relationship to performing the music, it felt new in some ways. Although I will be happy to return to the dark corners we normally perform in.

Afterwards we hung out with our friends and enjoyed the festival. I left around 6pm because I was tired and also because, since I spend most of my time touring or playing music or listening to music, the possibility of seeing more music was not as exciting to me as it should have been. I was more interested in seeing all the people I had not seen for a month.
